Nutrition Counseling
"Let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food" - Hippocrates
Melinda provides canine nutrition counseling to assist pet owners in establishing their own nutrition program for their pet.
After 15 years working with dogs and researching canine nutrition, Melinda believes nutrition to be the foundation of a healthy dog. Nutrition is vital for the function of the immune system and is key in fighting illness, diseases, and parasites. Many times fleas, ticks, mange, and intestinal parasites invade dogs whose nutrition is severely lacking. There is much research about cancer and chronic illnesses being attributed to by poor nutrition. Behavioral issues can also stem from problems with nutrition. It is very important to establish a healthy eating plan with young dogs in order to prevent many of the health issues which plague dogs later in life. Our goal at The Pines Pet Pampering is to provide owners with the knowledge and tools to make decisions for the ultimate well being of their pets.
Counseling sessions are by appointment and require full disclosure regarding the feeding history of your pet. An evaluation of your pet along with your lifestyle and pet care regimen is also needed. The best approach to nutrition counceling is a series of sessions, depending on the individual case. Most cases go as follows:
1st Session - History, Evaluation of pet, Evaluation of family lifestyle and pet care
Instruction regarding pet foods/general nutrition. Literature to take home
(45-60 minutes)
2nd Session - After time to research and evaluate the case, a nutrition plan is
formulated and a second session is scheduled to go over the nutrition
goals and plan
(30-45 minutes)
3rd Session - This session is to evaluate the progress of the nutrition plan and to
adjust any feeding or supplementation routines (this session can be a
phone consultation)
(30 minutes)
The fee for this service is $99.00 for the above outlined schedule, or $60.00 per hour for
each session. This service is available Monday-Saturday 10am-2pm by appointment only.
