GROOMING

Our Mission
At The Pines Pet Pampering, our goal is to provide the absolute best for each pet's health and well being.  All our grooming products are chemical-free, detergent-free, and non-toxic.  As pet grooming professionals, we attend annual conferences, seminars, and continuing education in our field to improve our techniques as well as stay on top of advancements within our industry. The services and products we offer reflect these advancements.

No breed of dog is ever turned away and we love grooming cats! Our specialties are hand scissoring poodles and bichons, scissored teddy bear styles on fluffy shih tzu types, hand carding/terrier stripping, cat grooming (de-shedding, maintenance trims, lion trims), grooming of specialty pets (birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, etc), and anesthetic-free dental cleanings for dogs.

"Holistic Grooming" - What does that mean and why is it important?

At The Pines Pet Pampering, we believe in a holistic approach when it comes to grooming procedures.  The holistic mantra is "Do No Harm".  For us, this means
using gentle techniques and assessing each pet to determine what is best for them.  There are methods to pet grooming which we do not compromise on.

  • No Cage Dryers - we individually hand dry each pet, protecting their eyes, ears, noses, and mouths.
  • No Routine Anal Gland Expressions - we express glands correctly and gently by a veterinary nurse, only by request of the pet owner, when it is known that the dogs' glands do not empty normally on their own
  • No Painful Ear Hair Removal - we remove hair from the inside of the ear canal only when it is superficial and not deeply imbedded and only by gently pulling smal amounts at one time.  We wear gloves and we use a little bit of ear powder to do this.  We only clear what is necessary to provide adequate air flow.  NEVER do we use hemostats to grab large amounts of hair, twist, then yank it out as is common at other facilities. If your dog has excess amounts of deeply imbedded hair in the canal, or inflamed and possibly infected ears we will recommend seeking veterinary attention for this matter so that your dog can receive proper treatment.  PLEASE NOTE: we are not in the business of hurting animals just for the sake of getting them groomed!
  • No Express or Rushed Groomings - we provide the best grooming experience by using relaxation techniques, taking our time, and providing attention to every guest
  • No Uncomfortable or Cramped Cages - every guest is provided plenty of room,
a soft blanket, bowl of fresh water, and outings to relieve themselves
  • No Routine Muzzling or Restraining - we strive to build trusting relationships with each pet and do this by maintaining a low stress environment which is quiet, calm, and mutually respectful
  • No Stress - we pride ourselves in the fact that we take every measure to ensure a calm, quiet, and tranquil environment - not only for the pets in our care, but for a stress-free work environment.
  • Quality - because we take our time, build relationships with every pet, and make sure they are all comfortable and well taken care of, we ask that you do not rush us or expect your dog to be in and out quickly.  We are not an assembly line grooming place.  Most dogs require on average 3-4 hours for their complete groom.  In addition we need time to give them breaks, take them out for potty, and let them have a drink.  These are dogs that come in regularly, are familiar with the grooming process, and are in good condition.  It takes me 2-3 hours at my hair salon to get my hair colored, cut, and styled.  Please do not expect us to brush out, bathe, condition, blow dry, brush out again, do a full body trim, style the coat, dremmel the nails, give your dog a rest and potty break in between, and do this all within a couple of hours.  It might get done that way at some other salons but I bet if you stayed and watched how it gets done so quickly you wouldn't be too happy.  Also, if dogs come in that have parasites like fleas, we will stop what we are doing and bathe those dogs immediately so your dog is protected from picking up fleas.  Sometimes this throws things out of order and delays us a bit.  Delays like that cannot be helped.  We will always do what is best for all the pets staying with us before we will do what is most convenient for you timewise.  We ask for your understanding.

Pricing
Here are a few key things that might help you understand our pricing. We charge based on the time involved and difficulty of the work.  This depends on the temperament of the pet, the coat type and condition, scissoring work involved, frequency of grooming, and if there are any tangles/mats or parasites present.  We offer discounted rate plans for frequent grooming schedules.  We have weekly, every 2 weeks, and every 3 weeks maintenance plans that are discounted.  Beyond 3 weeks we have regular pre-scheduled groomings as well for 4, 5, and 6 weeks.  Beyond 6 weeks is not considered a regular schedule as this usually means the pet is not coming in frequently enough to be comfortable with the grooming process resulting in overgrown nails, tangled coat, and difficulty in handling the pet.  Pricing will be higher due to increased time and effort.

Here is a general price range:
Small smooth coated dogs  $25-$35          (chihuahua, dachshund size)
Small dogs with haircut       $35-$50          (pomeranian, yorkie size)
Medium smooth coated       $35-$55          (beagle, basset hound size)
Medium dogs with haircut    $45-$65          (schnauzer, cocker size)
Large smooth coated dogs   $45-$65          (dalmation, doberman size)
Large dogs with haircut        $55-$85          (airdale, golden retriever size)
X-Large smooth coated        $55-$85          (great dane, over 80 lbs size)

CATS
For short haired cats we do everything from desheds, to sanitary shaves, to full body shaves.  For long haired cats we do everything from thorough comb outs, bathing, and fluff dry, to sanitary shaves, lion trims, and full body shaves.
We charge anywhere from $40-$120 depending on the temperament of the cat and the difficulty of the groom.

Please call us if you would like to discuss your particular breed, but know that it is impossible for us to give you an exact quote until we have groomed your pet once and know what its temperament is like.

Breeds that are difficult to handle or require an assistant to help handle the pet during grooming will be $15-$30 in addition to their size pricing.

Breeds with double coats that need a thorough de-shedding treatment will be $15-$30 in addition to their size pricing.

Breeds requiring a lot of hand scissoring or specialty pattern setting will be additional.

If your dog comes in matted and you want us to preserve the coat, the price of de-matting or comb out is $30 per hour in addition to the grooming price.

Sometimes it is necessary to shave the coat and still very difficult to remove the coat with clippers when it is matted depending on how close the mats are to the skin.  In those cases, dematting still takes place because we have to separate the mat from the skin in order to be able to shave it safely.  A dematting fee will still apply.
